Fourth Sunday of Advent, December 22, 2024
The Candle of Love
Today is the fourth Sunday of Advent. Our journey continues as we step closer to the lowly stable. We anticipate a divine
miracle about to be birthed.
God’s Love will soon occupy the manger. The Light of Jesus will shine into our darkened world. Our excitement grows as we light the Candle of Love. Our God was, and will always be a God of love in action, proving over and over that love is an action verb.
In the Old Testament because God was motivated by love, He took action. God provided, God breathed life giving breath, God planted and God formed.
Later, in the New Testament, we received the ultimate expression of His love in action, when God sent His Only Son, a tiny infant to be born to live among us. The Lamb of God would later give his life to become our Savior.
Matthew 1:21 “She will have a son, and you will name him Jesus—because he will save his people from their sins.
John 3:16 “For God loved the world so much that He gave His Only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not die but have eternal life.”
Finally, in an act of love, Jesus left us with the Holy Spirit to be our Comforter. God wants us to love others in response to His perfect love for us. We are to actively seek that tiny Babe with all our hearts, all of our souls and all of our minds. Without fear, we are to lovingly carry the Christ Child, The Love of God, into the darkness, to show and provide light for the world.
Let us Pray: Father of Heavenly Light, Thank you for this wonderful Season of Advent. Thank you for the wonders of your love and for the Gift of Your Love in Action, Jesus Christ. Give us wisdom and courage: Dear God, to respond to Your gracious love, by walking in the Way of Your love, with hope, joy and peace and without fear. Help us, always, to show them, show them, show them how to love You with their lives. Amen.
