INTROIT                        Great Is the Lord                                   Choir

Let us turn our minds from human things.

Our faith in Jesus saves us.

Let us set our minds on divine things.

Our faith in Jesus saves us.

We will deny ourselves and take up our cross.

Our faith in Jesus saves us.

We will lose all; that we may gain all.

Our faith in Jesus saves us. Amen.

*HYMN of PRAISE No. 109                                       “Lamb of Glory

*AFFIRMATION OF FAITH (inside Hymnal)                     The Apostles’ Creed

God our Redeemer, we confess that we are people of ashes and dust. You call us to be a blessing in the world, but we only seek our own benefit. You call us to give our lives for others, but we only seek to save ourselves. Forgive us, God of grace. Set our minds on divine things: the good news of the gospel and the promise of new life in You; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

If we rely upon the law of God, we are beyond hope. But in God’s mercy we are declared righteous through Jesus Christ, who died for our sins.

I declare to you in the name of Jesus Christ you are forgiven.

All glory and praise be to God. Amen.

Second Sunday of Lent

Adult Sunday School

9:45 AM in Sanctuary

Lenten Study: Tuesday, February 27, at 7:00 pm He Chose the Nails

Every gift from God reveals his love, but no gift reveals his love more than the gifts of the cross. Have we taken time to open these? As we do, we find that Jesus did it all just for us. This study unwraps the gifts of grace as if for the first time. And as you touch them, you feel the timber of the cross and trace the braid of the crown and finger the point of the spike pause and listen. Perchance you will hear him whisper: I did it just for you

Thirty Pieces of Silver Lenten Offering

Judas betrayed Jesus for 30 pieces of

silver! Lent is a time to remember the betrayal, death and the resurrection of Jesus.

We invite you to show your love for Christ by transforming 30 pieces of silver from the price of a betrayal into a Love Offering you give back to the Lord.

We encourage you to save 30 pieces of silver (nickels, dimes, quarters) in one of the cloth sacks available beginning Sunday, February 18.

Place your offering in the offering plate during Holy Week, to be used to help others in need.

As we snuff out the second candle, and continue our Lenten journey this week, God reveals to us an important truth. It is not about us. It is all about Him.

II Corinthians 3:18 says “And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into His likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.”

We are continually changed by God’s infallible Word. Through the power of God’s Word, we become more like

Him. Can you think of anything better than being like Jesus?

Only through the power of the Holy Spirit can our guilt be taken away. Only by being born again can our bad habits and sins be taken away.

We only have to believe.

John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.”

Only by believing in Jesus Christ can there be true change in our lives. We only have to believe.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, God of re-birth and renewal. We ask you to be with us as we walk through the darkness of Lent. Help us to believe. Change us so that we may step into your light. Give us a heart of kindness and compassion. Amen.

(Bold print in unison.)

Please consider making a donation to our ministry   Each dollar you give helps us fulfill the mission and vision God calls us to in reaching people for Christ.
